Protecting Alaska’s Fuel Infrastructure:
KRC’s Cathodic Protection Survey Program
K Corp Reliance Company, Inc. (KRC) is proud to have partnered with Petro 49, Inc. in delivering essential Annual Cathodic Protection (CP) Surveys across key fuel storage and distribution facilities throughout Alaska. This comprehensive program spans multiple locations, including Cordova, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Skagway, Wrangell, Homer, Kodiak, Juneau (Auke Bay), and Seward, ensuring that vital underground pipelines and fuel storage tanks remain protected against corrosion-related failures.
Scope of Work: Ensuring Compliance and Long-Term Protection
Cathodic Protection is a critical component of infrastructure maintenance, preventing corrosion in buried piping and API 650 tank bottoms to maintain operational safety and compliance with industry regulations. KRC’s AMPP-certified Cathodic Protection Technicians will conduct rigorous inspections, evaluating the performance of both galvanic and impressed current CP systems installed at each site. Our assessments will include:
CP On and Instant Off Structure-to-Soil Potential Measurements to determine the effectiveness of the CP systems.
Inspection of rectifiers and CP components to identify any system deficiencies and make necessary adjustments.
Testing of isolation flanges to verify electrical insulation integrity and prevent unintended current losses.
Review of previous CP survey data to track system performance trends and identify potential degradation.
Completion of detailed reports and submissions to regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Each facility presents unique requirements, with specialized evaluations such as corrosion coupon analysis in Homer, additional API 650 tank bottom inspections in Ketchikan and Seward, and galvanic CP system assessments in Petersburg, Wrangell, and Juneau (Auke Bay).
Why Cathodic Protection Matters
Alaska’s extreme weather conditions and the presence of moisture-rich soils create a challenging environment for buried metal infrastructure. Without proper corrosion protection, underground pipelines and fuel storage systems can degrade over time, leading to costly repairs, operational downtime, and potential environmental hazards. Cathodic Protection ensures long-term asset reliability, reduces maintenance costs, and safeguards against leaks and failures that could disrupt fuel supply chains.
By implementing proactive corrosion control strategies, KRC helps maintain safe, compliant, and efficient operations across Alaska. Our specialized knowledge in CP system maintenance, coupled with our commitment to quality inspections and timely reporting, ensures that fuel storage and distribution infrastructure remains in optimal condition year after year.
Trusted Expertise in Infrastructure Protection
With decades of experience in CP system evaluations, KRC is a trusted partner for ensuring the longevity of fuel infrastructure. Our annual surveys not only meet regulatory requirements but also provide valuable insights into system performance, enabling clients to make informed decisions about maintenance and upgrades.
